About The Standard

Inclusion, Life, Faith, Confidence

A lot is happening in our world right now, and a lot of division to go along with it. We need spaces where we can come together to just talk. That's what The Standard is. With everything going on we could use a little good news and a little light. That's what The Standard is. At least that's what I hope it is...for you.

Yes, this is a blog that talks about the Bible and church. Yes, Jesus and God will come up in every post. But, trust me there's a point.  God calls us family. Yet, (even in the church)  we forget that. Well, just in case you need it, here's your weekly reminder. Oh, and if you want to learn more about this Christian stuff too, then just keep reading.

As my church's motto goes, "Wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here".  If you've been in the faith for years, or don't even go to church this is for you.  No one left behind, because doing life alone is no fun.

Hi! I'm Amanda

Published creative writer, freelance editor,  pastor's kid, and creator of The Standard. I live on Rhode Island's coast with my two cats and am recently engaged to a wonderful man of God! We attend church together at Portmouth Friends Church. With a Master’s degree in Professional Writing and Communications from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (where I was also president of the Christian Fellowship), I have strong writing and communication skills. But I am always looking to learn more.

Also, as an avid reader, I love a good fantasy, sci-fi, or mystery book.  My favorite authors are N.K. Jemison, V.E. Schwab,  C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien. But I don't just read and write all day. I look for a good adventure, whether hiking on a new trail, checking out a NASCAR race in Pennsylvania, or heading on a road trip from Rhode Island to Tennessee and back. But some of my favorite days have been movie nights and Bible study with my fiancé. I also like to dance, usually to TobyMac, Lecrae, Trip Lee, and For King & Country; just some Christian artists I listen to. And then there's music from the '70s, '80s, and '90s like The Orléans and Billy Joel! ( I know, it's old school, but who cares? It's good music!)

Above all else, I am a woman of God. Above all else, I believe He is good, loving, and kind. My prayer is to share His joy and love with others. The Bible says Jesus came to give life and life abundantly, but it also says we shouldn't do life alone.  I hope that as we open discussions, we can close divides and create a space to uplift each other. Trusting God is a lifelong journey. Don't go alone.
